  • PhotoSmog

Supported by the Swedish Research Council.

  • PhotoSmog

Aiming to create a globally leading air pollution research hub, focusing on the fundamental knowledge and understanding of air pollution dynamics in China required for rigorously assessing its health, ecological and climate effects.

  • PhotoSmog

A collaboration between University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, CRAES Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Peking University.

PhotoSmog is a China-Sweden cooperation framework programme supported by the Swedish Research council VR. The initiating programme duration is 2014-2019.

Specific objectives are to:
• Establish a strategic long-term Swedish-Chinese research cooperation on air pollution based on joint projects and exchange of research staff.
• Characterise emissions of soot and precursors to O3 and SOA, their transformation in smog, and environmental effects in two highly populated regions in China: the Beijing region (BJ) and Pearl River Delta (PRD), which includes Hong Kong (HK).
• Characterise, illustrate and elucidate the exceptional photochemical smog events occurring in China and how the air pollution processes differ from those elsewhere.
